Dear Edgar Middle School Community,

I hope this message finds you well. As we begin another exciting school year together, I wanted to take a moment to reintroduce myself and share a bit about my journey and vision as Principal of Edgar Middle School.

Since my appointment in 2020, it has been an honor to lead a school community as dynamic, thoughtful, and committed as ours. Together, we’ve continued to build on the excellence that earned Edgar the distinction of a National Blue Ribbon School in 2022. My leadership is grounded in the belief that schools should be inclusive, student-centered spaces where everyone feels valued and inspired to learn. I strive every day to be a visible, supportive leader who builds strong relationships with students, staff, and families—and who never loses sight of what’s best for children.

Before stepping into the principalship, I served as the Supervisor of School Counseling here in Metuchen from 2015 to 2020. Prior to that, I spent 19 wonderful years in the Newark Public Schools, where I began my career as a middle school math teacher. Over the years, I also served as a school counselor, Supervisor of Guidance, Talent Development Coordinator, and Teacher Coach for College and Career Readiness. Each of these roles has shaped my commitment to equity, wellness, and academic excellence for all students.

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Seton Hall University, a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Montclair State University, and certifications in both Supervision (Kean University) and Principal (NJEXCEL).

On a personal note, I live in Readington with my husband and am the proud mom of two adult children—one a structural engineer and the other currently in college. Like you, I understand the hopes and dreams we all hold for our children, and I approach this work with that same deep sense of purpose and care.

I am so proud to be part of a school that values respect, kindness, responsibility, and inclusiveness, and I look forward to another meaningful year of learning, growth, and connection at Edgar Middle School.

Warm regards,
Suzy Azevedo

Principal
