Guidance and Counseling Services at Metuchen High School

Guidance Services at Metuchen High School emphasize educational planning, student accountability, and human interaction. The guidance staff collects information from teachers and other school specialists in assisting students and parents in the decision-making process.

During the school year, individual, as well as small and large group counseling sessions are held. The guidance department is committed to assisting and cooperating with other members of the school staff in executing, evaluating, and improving the total school program. Within this framework, the guidance department provides services to fulfill the expectations of the school community. This includes counseling, consultation, information services, testing programs, academic placement, and special activities.

Our guidance program focuses on the following areas:

1. Becoming familiar with a wide range of information about the world of work and about future education opportunities
2. Developing initiative, responsibility, and self-direction
3. Recognition, understanding, and solving problems
4. Developing the ability to choose goals and make decisions wisely
5. Developing the students' feelings and capabilities for increased self-awareness

Students, parents, and staff are encouraged to use guidance services and facilities.
