Open House August 23rd
Students in grades 5-8 are invited to attend an Open House on Thursday, August 23rd. The Open House is scheduled from 9:00 to 1:00. It is preferable that students in grades 5 & 6 attend between 9:00 and 11:00 am, and students in grades 7 & 8 attend between 11:00 and 1:00. There is no formal program. Students are welcome to visit and walk-through their schedule. Students in grades 6-8 can also receive their locker information. This Summer Open House is optional - student attendance is not required. For students who are unable to attend the open house on August 23rd, EMS will be open from 9-10 on August 28th for students to visit.

Supply Lists
Supply lists for the school year are available. Edgar Middle School participates in a rebate program with Office Depot. Our Office Depot ID# is 70067037. Supply lists can be found under Hot Spots in the left sidebar.
New student registration can be done through the Metuchen Central Registration Office located at Moss School, 16 Simpson Place, Metuchen, NJ 08840 (732-231-8700 ext. 1000)

Monday to Friday: 8am - 12:30pm and 2pm - 3pm

New entrants will be required to take placement tests in order to appropriately schedule them for classes.
Approximate duration:
  One hour for students entering grade 3-5 (Math only)
  Two hours for students entering grade 6-8 (ELA and Math)
Forms through Genesis
All forms for the school year need to be updated and/or submitted through the Genesis Parent Portal. If you have not yet completed these updates and consent forms, please do so as soon as possible. The electronic method of form submission replaces the packet of paper forms that have previously been sent home at the beginning of the school year.
With the implementation of the Scholastic Student Athlete Safety Act, all students are required by law to complete the N.J. Department of Education Health History Questionnaire and Physical Evaluation Form in order to participate in inter-scholastic sports and intramurals. While students participating in middle school sports teams have always needed a physical, the law now requires physicals for participation in intramurals. Physicals can be done by the school physician or your private health care provider. However, only the N.J. Department of Education athletic forms will be accepted. Paper copies are available in our main office and are available on our school website. Please note that in addition to athletic teams and intramural participation, Zone students who participate in recreation/sports activities in the after school program will also be required to have a physical. Edgar Middle School uses a computerized POS (point of sale) system in the school cafeteria. Instead of paying cash for your child’s lunch or snacks, you may deposit checks into your child’s debit account! Just like EZ Pass on the NJ Turnpike, this system reduces time-consuming cash transactions, and will make our lunch lines move much faster. Note that while “good old fashioned cash” will still be accepted in the cafeteria, our hope is that many parents will appreciate the ease and convenience of pre-paying for their child’s lunch. For your additional convenience, we also have an internet-based payment system, which allows you the option of paying for your child’s lunch on-line, via credit card. This service also allows you to receive automated emails detailing your child’s account balance, which items they purchased for lunch, and if their balance is low. Think about it…no more lost lunch money…no more forgotten lunch money…no more “losing the change” to the $10 or $20 bill…your prepaid funds will be held safely in trust by the school until they are used to purchase healthy meals in our cafeteria. If you would like to put money on account for your child, please make checks payable to Metuchen Board of Education Cafeteria Fund. The payment will be posted to your child’s account. Payments will be accepted in as large or small a $ amount as you feel is convenient for you.

Homework Requests
The procedure for requesting work when your child is out sick has changed. If your child is out sick for 3 or more consecutive days and you would like to request that teachers send work and materials for you to pick up after school, please call the counseling office secretary at 732-205-4067 by 9:30 a.m.
The Metuchen Public Schools have partnered with the Borough to support their anti-idling campaign as a part of a Sustainable Jersey action step.  This can impact the health and welfare of our borough’s school children.  Please click on the link for more information regarding the harmful effects of idling. We encourage parents to turn off their engines as they wait to pick up their children at school or at various activities and functions.

Emergency Changes In Schedule
Just a reminder about emergency changes in the school schedule due to inclement weather conditions. Parents will be notified through the District's Honeywell Alert System. You may also access information by calling the Board of Education at (732) 321-8700 or using the district's website at www.metuchenschools.org. On delayed openings, EMS starts at 9:35am. Students may enter the building at 9:15am on these days. Busses are expected to pick up students 90 minutes later than the regularly scheduled time. Any concerns about bussing should be directed to the District Transportation Department at (732) 321-8700 ext. 1010.
